MICHELLE EWALD WINS INAUGURAL MDUSBC QUEENS

Michelle Ewald of Clinton Township won the inaugural MDUSBC Queens on Sunday with a 223-201 triumph over Carol Davis of Lake Orion at Luxury Lanes in Ferndale .

Ewald was the top qualifier with a four-game total of 941 on games of 237-237-258-209. Once in match play she beat Melanie Curry of Detroit 226-181, Sheri Verespej of Monroe 280-278 and Betty Trimper of Redford 226-225 on her way to the final match.

In the match against Verespej, Ewald needed two strikes and nine pins for the win and proceeded to throw three strikes. Next in the match against Trimper she was virtually out of the match until Trimper missed a one-pin spare in the tenth frame to open the door. Given the opportunity Ewald spared and struck for the one-pin victory.

Davis had a slightly easier time on her way to the final match. She qualified sixth with 900 on games of 213-235-217-235. In match play she defeated Anica Felton of Canton 225-193, Linda Cardona of Rochester Hills 276-236 and Kristy Hatcher of Clinton Township 243-227 en route to the finals.

Ewald took home a check for $1,000 and Davis settled for $500.
